"Lord, I love you," said former Pope Benedict XVI's last words, Archbishop Georg Genswein, his longtime personal secretary.

On the 2nd (local time), Archbishop Genswein revealed in an interview with the Vatican News, the official media of the Vatican, that a male nurse who was guarding Benedict XVI heard his last words around 3 am on the 31st of last month.

Archbishop Genswein said he was told by a nurse that "Benedict XVI said in Italian, 'Lord, I love you', vaguely but very distinctly."

Former Pope Benedict XVI died at 9:34 a.m., about six hours later, at the age of 95.

Although his health had deteriorated rapidly in recent years, he died without being hospitalized and did not want to continue to stay in this monastery.

Pope Francis visited the monastery where former Pope Benedict XVI died and stayed for a long time, Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni said.
