Billionaire and Egyptian businessman Naguib Sawiris responded to what an Egyptian newspaper reported about his apology for recently offending a number of media professionals close to the regime, by saying, "nonsense."

A few days ago, a verbal exchange took place between Sawiris and some Egyptian media figures - including Amr Adeeb, Ahmed Moussa, Tamer Amin, Muhammad Al-Baz and Mustafa Bakri - as he described them as "drumpers", referring to their absolute support for the regime, which aroused their anger and clashed with him in a verbal battle on the communication sites.

We did not gain from drumming as much as you gained from drumming you, Naguib. It is possible that our drumming had sounds, but your drumming had towers and dollars.

Yesterday, Sunday, January 1, 2023, the local newspaper, “Cairo 24,” published a picture in which Sawiris appeared with the journalist Amr Adeeb, and titled it, “Naguib Sawiris holds a special celebration in El Gouna and apologizes for insulting media professionals.”

One of the bloggers asked Sawiris, "What do you think of this talk?", to which Sawiris replied with a tweet on his Twitter account, saying, "This (this) is nonsense."

According to the newspaper, Sawiris held a luncheon in his private home in El Gouna (a tourist resort in Hurghada), to celebrate New Year's Eve, with the participation of Egyptian and foreign media and public figures.

The newspaper stated that one of the attendees asked the famous businessman about the reason for his attack on the media, to which Sawiris replied, "The crisis was not intended at all, and it was not an attack on anyone, especially since there is a friendship that unites me with Amr Adib."

Continuous battles

From time to time, Egyptian businessman Naguib Sawiris makes controversial statements, and these statements vary between art, politics, economics, and sometimes religion.

Before that, the Egyptian billionaire clashed with the former head of the Musicians' Syndicate, Hani Shaker, expressing his anger at Shaker's issuance of a decision to stop a number of popular singers from singing, and to withdraw their permits that authorize them to practice the profession.

In October 2021, Sawiris sent a letter to the former Lebanese Minister of Information, George Qirdahi, following the crisis that the latter caused between Lebanon and the Gulf states, following his statements about the Yemen war.

Businessman Naguib Sawiris said in a tweet, "The resignation is required for the benefit of the country, regardless of who made a mistake and who did not make a mistake."

In June 2011, Sawiris sparked a storm of protests after he published pictures of Walt Disney cartoon characters "Mickey Mouse" and "Minnie" wearing Islamic clothes.

At that time, lawyers filed a lawsuit against Sawiris for "insulting Islam", while calls appeared on Facebook and Twitter to boycott his mobile phone company, Mobinil, which made him apologize.
