On New Year's Day, armed men broke into a Mexican prison and opened fire, killing at least 14 people, including prison guards and security guards.



According to foreign media reports, on the morning of the 1st (local time), assailants rode in several armed vehicles and fired indiscriminately at Ciudad Juarez 3 Prison, Chihuahua, bordering the United States.



The assailants entered the security area and set fire to some facilities, creating mayhem throughout the area.



At least 14 people, including prison guards and security guards, were killed in the process.



The number of injured is unknown.



In addition, local media reported that about 20 prisoners escaped and disappeared.



After announcing that the situation was completely under control during the afternoon, military authorities and police said they were conducting an operation to search for the escaped by mobilizing helicopters.



In Ciudad Juárez Prison 3, members of the notorious drug crime syndicates in the area, the Sinaloa Cartel and the Juarez Cartel subordinates, 'New Man' and 'The Line' are mainly serving time.



The local investigative authorities believe that this case is related to the two cartels and are trying to figure out the exact circumstances.
