The Ukrainian Air Force Command said that it destroyed 45 Iranian-made "Shahid" drones at the beginning of the new year, with the continuation of Russian attacks on various regions of the country.

The Air Force stated that it shot down 32 of these drones after midnight, after shooting down 13 late on Saturday evening.

The Reuters news agency reported that sirens have been sounding in Kyiv for more than 4 hours.

For its part, the Ukrainian Army Command said - in its report on Sunday morning - that Russia launched 31 missiles and carried out 12 air strikes across Ukraine during the past 24 hours.

In the same context, the head of the intelligence department in the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, General Kirillo Budanov, said that Russia still has enough missile reserves to launch two or three future large-scale attacks across Ukraine.

Budanov added that Russia can produce up to 50 Caliber missiles per month, and that any major Russian attack would require about a month and a half to produce new missiles.

New year messages

Politically, the presidents of Russia and Ukraine delivered a speech on the occasion of the new year, pledging to do everything possible to achieve victory in this war.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said, in a video message on Saturday evening, "We were told you have no choice but to surrender, and we say we have no choice but to win."

"We are fighting as one team, the whole country, all our regions. I have all my appreciation for you," he added.

Zelensky pledged to restore the lands that Russia announced its annexation last September.

He added, "This year our hearts broke, and our tears dried up... We are fighting and we will continue to fight for one thing: victory."

On the other hand, Russian President Vladimir Putin broke with tradition and delivered his New Year's speech among the Russian forces, not from the Kremlin.

In his speech delivered from the headquarters of the Southern Military Command, Putin said that the past year was a watershed between "courage and heroism, between treason and cowardice," and thanked the Russian forces, while asking them to do more.

"The most important thing is the fate of Russia... Defending the fatherland is our sacred duty towards our ancestors and grandchildren. The moral and historical right is with us," the Russian president added.
