In Nigeria, the continent's heavyweight with more than 200 million inhabitants, general elections are scheduled for the first half of 2023. Appointment is given on February 25 for the presidential and legislative elections, and in March for the appointment governors and local assemblies.

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, who has completed two terms (2015-2019, 2019-2023), cannot run.

On the other hand, for Sierra Leone in June, for Liberia in October and for Madagascar in November, the outgoing Julius Maada Bio, George Weah and Andry Rajoelina can run for a second term.

In Gabon, the Constitution allows President Ali Bongo to run again if he wishes.

In his case, it will be to run for a third seven-year term (2009-2016, 2016-2023).

Another giant of the continent: the Democratic Republic of Congo.

She also has a presidential election on her horizon this year.

The vote is officially scheduled for December 20.

Voter registration has started but not everywhere because of the violence.

The Head of State, Felix Tshisekedi, has already announced that he is a candidate for re-election.

He succeeded Joseph Kabila in early 2019.

In Zimbabwe, general elections are also expected in 2023. On the other hand, general elections have already been formally postponed in South Sudan.

They will not take place this year and the transition has been extended for two years, until 2024. South Sudan has not had a presidential election since its independence in 2011. At the end of 2013, a bloody civil war broke out in this country, still unstable today.
