“South Africa highly appreciates BRICS membership and intends to support the effective work of this influential group of countries during its chairmanship, which will last until the end of 2023,” a representative of the republic’s Foreign Ministry told TASS.
South African Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor added that the country, as chair of the group, intends to exercise the strategic leadership of BRICS in cooperation with other member countries.
Algerian President Abdelmajid Tebboune previously expressed hope for joining the BRICS in 2023.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said that the Russian side welcomes Algeria's intention to join the BRICS.
