Russian army: New Year's strikes targeted drone factories in Ukraine

The Russian army confirmed on Sunday that the strikes, which were carried out on several Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv on New Year's Eve, targeted facilities for making drones, with the aim of thwarting planned attacks.

And the Russian Ministry of Defense stated in its daily report that, "On December 31, 2022, the Russian Armed Forces launched a precise long-range air attack on the facilities of the Ukrainian defense industry involved in making attack drones used to launch attacks on Russia."

It said that "the plans of the Kyiv regime aimed at launching attacks on Russia in the near future have been thwarted."

Moscow often describes the operations launched by the Ukrainian army on Russian soil or on its facilities in Ukraine as "terrorist acts".

The Russian army announced the continuation of its attack on the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine, where most of the fighting is currently concentrated.

The Russian strikes that targeted Kyiv on Saturday and other Ukrainian cities resulted in at least three deaths and fifty injuries, according to the Ukrainian authorities.
