While many public holidays fell on a Sunday in 2022 to the chagrin of workers, 2023 will be the year of long weekends.

Because this time, almost all public holidays fall on weekdays, and often on a Monday.

Europe 1 explains how to take your leave to make the most of the coming year.

2023 will be the year of bridges and long weekends.

Unlike 2022 when many public holidays fell on a Sunday (including May 1 and 8, Christmas and New Year's Day), this year, almost all of them will be on weekdays.

It is even possible for those who work from Monday to Friday to obtain 64 days of vacation, by asking only 26 days of vacation.

Europe 1 explains how to optimize your year to take advantage of the many days of rest allowed by the calendar.

Seven long weekends

First of all, without even taking the slightest day off, there will be seven long weekends in 2023. As usual, those of Easter Monday on April 10, and Whit Monday on May 29.

And this year, May 1, May 8, Christmas and New Year's Day 2024 also fall on a Monday.

As for the National Day of July 14, it falls this time on a Friday.

Thanks to the other holidays of 2023, workers will be able to regularly take advantage of the many bridges allowed by the calendar.

Take advantage of the arrival of spring in April

From April, by taking four days from Tuesday 11 to Friday 14, it is possible to have nine days of vacation, thanks to the Easter weekend.

Only work 12 days in May

Like every year, the month of May is the month that allows active people to make the most of the bridges.

And especially this year.

First possibility: taking four days from Tuesday 2 to Friday 5 May will allow you to take advantage of 10 days off, thanks to the long weekends of Monday 1 and 8 May.

Second possibility: land on Friday May 19, to take advantage of a four-day bridge allowed by Ascension Thursday, May 18.

Third possibility: take a day off on Friday May 26 or Tuesday May 30 to have a long weekend of four days (or five if you ask both) for the Pentecost weekend.

Holidays in July...

It will then be necessary to wait until July to take advantage of the public holidays.

With the national holiday falling on a Friday, two possibilities are available to you.

Either ask four days from Monday 10 to Thursday 13 to take advantage of nine days of vacation.

Either take five days off the following week, from July 17 to 21, to have ten days off this time.

… And in August

Concerning the month of August, the Assumption (August 15), falls on a Tuesday.

By taking four days of vacation on Monday the 14th, then from Wednesday the 16th to Friday the 18th, you can benefit from nine days of rest.

A nice week of rest in the fall

This year, November 1 falls on a Wednesday.

Once again, by taking four days off during All Saints' Week (Monday 30 and Tuesday 31 October, then Thursday 2 and Friday 3 November), you will be able to take advantage of nine days of rest.

The only downside of 2023 seems to be the November 11 Armistice, which will fall on a Saturday.

Long Christmas holidays

Since this year, Christmas and New Year's Day will fall on a Monday, you only need to ask four days from the 26th to the 29th to have a nice 10-day holiday.

Enough to take full advantage of 2023, by taking only 26 (or a maximum of 28) days off.
