Åsa Lannefors has worked at Helsingborg's riding school for 30 years and today she is the head of the riding school.

There is a mixture between older experienced New Year's horses and inexperienced younger ones.

The mix is one of the reasons why the horses at the riding school do well.

But of course there are things you as a horse owner can do.

- On New Year's Eve, we bring the horses in a little earlier and we expect everyone to be in until four o'clock, when fireworks are allowed, says Åsa Lannefors.

In addition to that, the horses are given an extra measure of roughage, later feeding and staff are on site.

Two kinds of behavior

What happens when a horse gets scared?

- Horses have their herd and escape instinct.

They want to be together in a herd and if something is unpleasant, they want to run away.

Åsa Lannefors says that if the horses are left in the paddock and if the fence is substandard, there is a big risk that the horses will escape if New Year's rockets and firecrackers get too close.

- They easily speed up and if they run away, they can get hurt or injure others, for example motorists.

They don't stop at a road.

Can the horses get but from, for example, fireworks?

- Absolutely they remember bad things and they remember good things.

Horses have a very strong memory.
