Russian President Vladimir Putin praised the late Pope, saying he was a "defender of traditional Christian values," and sent a message of condolence to Pope Francis.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni praised the late pope, describing him as a "giant of faith and reason".

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen expressed her sorrow at the death of the Pope Emeritus, offering her condolences to all Catholics.
