Lately I have noticed an atmosphere of contradictions and tensions within German society.

Actually, one should rather speak of societies today when one speaks of Germany.

Because you saw, for example, how part of society refused to accept the pandemic measures.

But instead of having a meaningful and serious dialogue with these protesting people, a kind of discrimination took place.

They seemed unwelcome, while general open discussion in the public dwindled.

The so-called coup that recently took place in Germany is another symptom of a lack of trust in the state and its institutions.

Of course, one can say that these people are just "nuts".

However, history has taught that even such "nuts" can take over power if certain conditions are met.

After World War II, Germany provided an example of a nation capable of coming to terms with the past - more so than any other nation.

This capacity for self-criticism is important in order to advance democratic life.

The culture of “never again” should therefore become the motto that Germany brings to the world.
