Guest of the program "Bienfait pour vous" this Tuesday on Europe 1, Jérémy Côme, expert in good manners, listed a list of tips to apply to adopt a chic and elegant outfit during the evening of December 31.

Jackets, shirts, ties... Our specialist sifts through all the clothes... right down to the socks.

Only a few hours left until New Year's Eve.

Time to fine-tune the details of your evening with family or friends to celebrate the passage into the new year.

And among these small adjustments, often decided in the last moments, we regularly find the dress code.

To avoid headaches in front of your dressing room, Jérémy Côme, expert in good manners, draws up a list of pitfalls to avoid in order to adopt an elegant style and avoid ridicule during dinner.

At the microphone of Europe 1, he first distills a first advice.

"The first rule - and not the least - is based on the prohibition to wear more than three different colors".

The expert specifies however: "You can still mix tones of blue, tones of beige or brown".

The main thing is to avoid the multiplication of very different colors, such as red, green and yellow.

"A gentleman only wears plain shirts"

Jérémy Côme also recommends matching your belt to your shoes.

When it comes to socks, our expert warns.

It is possible to choose a white model or one studded with patterns provided you wear them with sneakers.

“You also have to match the color of the socks either to that of your shoes or to that of your pants,” he adds.

The specialist also suggests "high socks" which go up almost to the knee.

"And if you start from the principle that the colored socks are part of your outfit, then you assume them and you no longer marry them with the pants or with the shoes".

Jérémy Côme then evokes the shirt, which one might be tempted to bring out in view of the extremely mild temperatures expected in France for this December 31st.

"The shirt is prohibited", asserts our specialist.

"A gentleman only wears plain shirts, sky blue, white with fine stripes but never motley," he says.

It is nevertheless possible to roll up the sleeves of his shirt "up to the elbow".

"Don't wear a tie if you're not used to it"

Said shirt is often accompanied by a jacket with buttons.

Again, a strict rule must apply.

"There is a mnemonic device. We never button the last button, the one near the fly", explains Jérémy Côme.

The reason is quite simple.

"It normally allows you to see the pretty tie that protrudes from your jacket and also the pretty belt that you would have worn", he explains to Julia Vignali and Mélanie Gomez.

As for ties, precisely, the expert recommends not wearing them systematically.

"It's very important not to wear a tie if it doesn't suit you, if you're not used to it," he advises.

In the event that the wearing of a tie is imposed, "make sure it is well proportioned. There are tall gentlemen who do not know how to tie a tie and it seems that they have borrowed the their son's tie".

Be careful, however, not to fall into the opposite pitfall.

"The point of the tie stops at the level of the belt. So either we know how to do it or we don't know how to do it".

The merit of clarity.
