The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has promised to respond with "serenity and firmness" to the, in his opinion, "irresponsible" blockade to which the PP is submitting the renewal of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ), an attitude which he considers "unjustifiable".

This is what he does in a letter that he has sent to the PSOE militancy in which he breastfeeds the economic and social measures implemented by the Executive to alleviate the economic consequences of the war in Ukraine but in which he does not even mention the recent penal reform or the Catalan conflict.

In line with the year-end balance that he made in his appearance last Tuesday in Moncloa, Sánchez stressed that, despite all the current difficulties, "Spain is advancing" and that it is doing so "despite the unjustifiable attitude of the right that is located outside the constitutional framework by persisting in an unacceptable blockade in the renewal of the institutions".

The also general secretary of the PSOE once again denounces that the sole objective of the party led by Alberto Núñez Feijóo is "to reverse by any means the rights and social conquests achieved in this legislature with the democratic reason of the votes."

"Given the irresponsible position of the main opposition party, the Government will always respond with serenity and firmness to guarantee that our Constitution is complied with in its entirety. With the absolute conviction that democracy will always prevail," emphasizes Sánchez in his letter, collected by Europa Press.

In addition, it makes it clear that the socialists do not forget where they come from or who they represent.

"We govern for the whole of society, but we are clear that our public policies are the only hope for a majority that is always relegated when others are the ones who exercise power," he assures.

In this context, he explains that this year that is coming to an end his "top priority" has been "to control inflation and alleviate its effects on the day-to-day life of the majority of society", also operating "decisively at the European level, where Spain has defended the energy market intervention.

Thus, it recalls that a response plan valued at 45,000 million euros has been deployed to protect the public as a whole and the most exposed groups, reduce inflation and continue growing to create "stable and quality" employment.

"Today Spain is advancing with a progressive coalition government that approves progressive measures to protect ordinary people. Measures that are very different from those that a hypothetical right-wing government would adopt with the ultra-right," stresses Sánchez, who points out that, even "with all the required prudence" it can already be verified that "the results guarantee" his management.

Thus, it highlights that inflation "stands at 6.8%, well below the European average", that "more than 20 million people contribute to Social Security" and that "Spain grows and creates stable employment, dismantling the catastrophic predictions of a right wing incapable of articulating a coherent economic discourse".

However, he acknowledges that "much remains to be done to continue reducing inflation" that continues "at high levels" and explains that this is the objective of the new package of measures approved last Tuesday by the Council of Ministers.

"It is one more example that, unlike what happened a decade ago with the neoliberal response to the financial crisis, the bill for the crisis caused by the war in Ukraine will not fall on a middle and working class that this government places at the center of all its action", adds Sánchez in his letter.

In addition, it guarantees that in an electoral 2023 the Government will not change course and will do the same as since 2018. At this point it alludes to the increase in the minimum wage and pensions to "protect the purchasing power of families."

"In electoral years and those that are not, even and odd years, we will always govern for the majority, for the middle and working classes, for ordinary people," he insists.

"If we have managed to protect families and companies and we have managed to make Spain advance with a gale against it, imagine we will achieve everything when the wind blows in our favour," concludes Sánchez's letter to the socialist militancy.
