A few days before the end of the rebates on fuel from the State and Total, motorists anticipate and go to the pump to save a few euros on their tank one last time.

From January 1, this system will give way to a fuel check of 100 euros.

Not enough for some.

This time it's over.

The government fuel rebate ends this Saturday, December 31.

First 30 cents, then increased to 10 euro cents per liter of gasoline in mid-November, the device will be replaced by a fuel check.

So, in service stations, many motorists are anticipating rising prices.

This is the case of Martine, pistol in hand.

“We still benefit a little from the few cents of savings that we can make”, she quips at the microphone of Europe 1. “This increase, it will disturb me a little in the budget, it is sure. It will make between eight and 10 euros more per month in my fuel budget", she regrets.

End of the rebate also at Total

A small increase, which is added to all the others, thus weighing down the purchasing power of the French.

And there is no question of counting on the oil giant TotalEnergies to earn a few cents.

The French offered, in addition to the government rebate, his own discount, first of 30 cents, then 10 cents since mid-November.

But from the first of January, this rebate will also be a thing of the past.

"I move less, and now I avoid the most expensive stations even if they are close to my home," explains Michel, who is refueling his car at one of the French tanker's stations.

Towards further fuel increases at the start of 2023?

But if the rebate ends, the government intends to continue to give a boost to motorists.

The executive will thus set up an exceptional check of 100 euros for the most modest households.

"100 euros, that doesn't represent anything at all", judges Victor, filling the tank of his scooter.

"Come on, it's going to be the equivalent of two weeks for the big rollers, who will go to work by car", he estimates.

Russia will ban the sale of its oil to countries using the price cap

And with the conflict in Ukraine, it is the double penalty that awaits motorists.

The latter fear a new increase in fuel at the start of the year, because on February 5 the embargo of the European Union on Russian oil will come into force.

A choice that will not fail to have consequences on the prices displayed in front of the stations.
