The issue of a coastal wind farm has been a hot potato for a long time in Skurup politics.

In 2002, a referendum was held in which the No side won by a narrow margin.

The wind farm became an election issue in Skurup, and the chairman of the municipal board Johan Bolinder (M) is convinced that the election result is proof of continued support on the no side.

- If you look at the parties that took a negative stance, we all came out strong in Abbekås, he says.

Maximum price of 89 öre/kWh

The company Kustvind AB wants to build around 30 wind turbines 8-15 kilometers off the coast of Abbekås.

The wind turbines are supposed to be 300 meters high.

In a new attempt to convince the municipality, the company is offering a maximum price of 89 öre/kWh for ten years for Skurups residents.

- The clearest benefit that local electricity production can provide is if it can lead to lower electricity prices.

Here we can offer high-cost protection to dampen the price shock when electricity is at its most expensive, says Magnus Jiborn, CEO of AB Kustvind.

But the proposal does not affect the municipality's stance.

- We are unwavering, says municipal board chairman Johan Bolinder (M).

The company Kustvind claims that their offer of a maximum price for electricity is aimed at all residents.

"The visuals come a long way down"

But among the people of Skurup, it is not as obvious.

- I understand those who don't think it's nice when you live down there, but if we're going to have such high electricity prices, the visuals will go way down, says Linda Melby.
