About 4,000 – 5,000 reports are submitted about wildlife accidents on the railway tracks every year, according to Andreas Seiler, researcher at SLU Grimsö.

To solve the problem, a Swedish-Norwegian research project has been started, with the aim of reducing wildlife accidents on the railway tracks.

This is how the experiment went

- We started by looking at which sounds have a frightening effect on game.

We lured the animals to feeding places, salt rocks and played different sounds for the animals and recorded the animals' different reactions to it.

So far, they have tested the sounds on moose, deer and wild boar in both Sweden and Norway.

Andreas says that they have also seen similar results in other countries where one of the sounds has the most effect on the animals.
