• Sexist violence A pregnant woman of almost 9 months and her baby dies stabbed by her ex-partner in Escalona

  • Madrid A 20-year-old girl is stabbed to death in Vallecas by her mother's ex-partner who had a restraining order

The Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, has ordered the security forces to intensify protection measures for victims of sexist violence and that police risk assessments prioritize the "most favorable" actions for women and their children.

The announcement comes in full rebound in cases, with ten murdered in December, and after admitting yesterday the Secretary of State for Equality and against Gender Violence,

Ángela Rodríguez

, that "if there are murders there is a failure of all the institutions, we have not arrived on time."

Marlaska, who has appeared urgently after the latest sexist murders, has shown "deep frustration" at "the unusual and terrible proliferation" of crimes these days, although she has made it clear that "they do not respond to any temporal pattern or another type".

The minister has detailed all the actions that the different ministries apply to combat gender violence, and has assessed that "all assessments are in accordance with the protocols".

"Collaboration is important", he highlighted, "but like all systems they can be improved and that's where we are at".

As specified, a total of 31,161 women are within the

Comprehensive Monitoring System in Cases of Gender Violence

(VioGén) for ill-treatment, of which 17 of them are at extreme risk and 706 at high risk, with measures of reinforced protection.

Only in this month of December, ten women have allegedly died at the hands of their partners or ex-partners, three of them murdered since

Christmas Eve

, and two other women remain hospitalized after being assaulted by their partners in

Calahorra

(La Rioja) and

Granada

.

Two women have been murdered in the last few hours.

The first, 34 years old, had barely a week left to give birth to her baby who has also died, she was stabbed on Wednesday night by her ex-partner, 52, in

Escalona

( Toledo).

In Madrid, a 37-year-old man has also stabbed to death this Wednesday the 20-year-old daughter of his ex-partner, for whom he had a restraining order, and has attempted suicide with the same knife at a district home Madrid from

Puente de Vallecas

.

Also today, the National Police have arrested a 22-year-old man in connection with the death of his partner, of the same age, after falling from a sixth floor in

Benidorm

(Alicante).

"The situation is extremely serious," they admitted yesterday from the

Ministry of Equality

, which hosted the celebration of the crisis committee on sexist violence between the Ministry of Equality, the

Ministry of Justice

, the

Ministry of the Interior

, the autonomous communities in which the murders and the corresponding

Violence Units

have taken place .

Improving the inter-institutional relationship and being "especially alert on holidays" are two of the situations that were analyzed at the meeting.

"The objective of this crisis committee is to make self-criticism. If there are murders there is a failure of all the institutions, we have not arrived on time," acknowledged the

number two

of Equality.
