Deprived of a show since 2019 due to the health crisis, the capital will vibrate again on Saturday evening for the start of the new year.

The Avenue des Champs-Élysées will be the scene of celebrations all in music until midnight before the launch of a fireworks display that promises to be grandiose.

The party will resume on Saturday December 31 on the Champs-Élysées in Paris.

After two years of interruption due to the Covid-19 crisis, Parisians will once again be allowed to celebrate on the most beautiful avenue in the world to mark the passage into the new year.

For this return to the festivities, the organizers have seen things on a grand scale and promise a majestic spectacle to delight the two million people expected.

While the highlight of the evening will take place at 11.59 p.m. with the launch of the pyrotechnic show, the festivities will begin at 10 p.m. in a musical atmosphere on the Champs-Élysées pedestrianized for the occasion.

The playlist will give pride of place to French songs, including titles by Clara Luciani, Juliette Armanet and Sound of Legend, an electro musical formation, represented by a DJ.

An eight-minute pyrotechnic show

Then will come the famous fireworks, fired from the Arc de Triomphe from 23 hours, 59 minutes and 15 seconds very precisely, accompanied by the countdown which will appear gradually until midnight sharp and the changeover in the year 2023. Imagined by the French company ArtEventia, the pyrotechnic show will be composed of "eight paintings of light and fire", according to the organization.

Projections all around the Place de l'Etoile are planned and could reach 455 meters in circumference.

"It was a proposal on our part, and it has never been done. In the past, the lights were drawn only around the Arc de Triomphe", assures Edouard Grégoire, artistic director of the show, with France Bleu Paris.

The show will also require 127 shooting points as well as 340 kg of material.

No less than 20 pyrotechnicians were also mobilized to ensure the proper performance of the fireworks.

The only uncertainty now: the weather.

Pyrotechnic shows rarely adapt to the gusts of wind that are nevertheless expected in the capital for New Year's Eve.

The organizers only have to cross their fingers so that the gusts fade away for the eight minutes required to run the entire show.
