The Hessian State Criminal Police Office (LKA) has a new Vice President.

As the authority announced on Thursday, Daniel Muth will take on the task in the future. Together with head of the authority Andreas Röhrig, he will be the leader in the fight against crime in Hesse. The 48-year-old criminalist had previously been named as a candidate in police circles.

He is regarded as an accomplished and extremely experienced specialist in various areas of combating various forms of the most serious crime.

Among other things, he headed the special commission in the murder case of Walter Lübcke.

"Daniel Muth combines police operational competence with modern leadership qualities in a special way," said LKA boss Röhrig.

Muth himself describes the State Criminal Police Office as the "linchpin of the fight against crime in Hesse".

Daniel Muth was born in Fulda in 1974.

Until his appointment as head of the state security and counter-terrorism department in the LKA in August 2020, he headed the criminal investigation department of the police headquarters in East Hesse.

Before that he was chief of the criminal police in Wiesbaden and in Darmstadt.

His specialty is counter-terrorism, organized crime and serious crime.

From June 2019, after the murder of District President Walter Lübcke, he headed the "Liemecke" special commission and then became head of state security in the Hessian State Criminal Police Office.

Muth is married and has three children.

The post of vice-president had become vacant due to shifts within the management level at police headquarters.

The previous deputy chief of the authority, Felix Paschek, is now chief of police in Wiesbaden, after his predecessor, Stefan Müller.
