A dramatic accident took place near the town of Varilhes in Ariège.

A collision between a TER and a car caused the death of the driver of the vehicle on Tuesday, we learned from the firefighters.

The accident occurred shortly after 2 p.m. on the SNCF line connecting Latour-de-Carol, near the Spanish border, to Toulouse, according to the same source, specifying that the collision did not cause any other victim among the occupants of the train, i.e. 25 passengers and the driver.

Passengers "shocked"

They are "shocked" and their "evacuation is currently underway", according to firefighters.

They will "continue their journey with an SNCF bus", they added.

Firstly relying on a resumption of traffic at the end of the day, the SNCF finally let it be known in a tweet that “the intervention of the teams at the site of the accident will require more time than expected”.

Wednesday's journeys "will be limited between Toulouse and Auterive, traffic will be impossible on the rest of the line".

The SNCF, evoking an “accident at a level crossing”, plans a return to normal for Thursday morning
