Two Australian skiers were buried under an avalanche this Monday afternoon in Val d'Isère (Savoie) while they were evolving in an off-piste sector.

They were part of a group led by a mountain professional, indicates France Bleu Pays de Savoie.

The accident happened after a patch of snow some 250m wide broke off from a glacier, reports

Another group of skiers sounded the alarm.

The two victims, equipped with transmitters to facilitate their location in the event of an avalanche, were quickly found by their comrades.

They were pulled out of the snow by trackers and other skiers.

The soldiers of the high mountain gendarmerie platoon (PGHM) of Courchevel (Savoie) intervened.

The two Australians were then evacuated by helicopter.

One was transported to the hospital in Chambéry (Savoie) while the other was taken care of at the medical office of the ski resort.

They never lost consciousness.

The accident took place at an altitude of 3,140 m, at the top of the Pisaillas glacier.
