Nearly a hundred Starlink network Internet terminals are active in Iran, Elon Musk said on Monday.

The boss of SpaceX had promised last September to deploy its network of satellites in the country while the authorities increasingly limited access to the Internet.

"Soon 100 active Starlinks in Iran," the American billionaire tweeted.

Starlink is made up of a network of more than 2,000 small satellites in low orbit above the Earth, which provide a connection.

Terrestrial terminals are connected to routers which generate Wi-Fi and therefore Internet access.

Internet against all odds

Since the start of the war in Ukraine, SpaceX has delivered thousands of terminals to the country to provide a connection to combatants.

Some 25,000 terminals have already been deployed in the territory fighting against Russia.

Iran has been rocked by protests since the September 16, 2022 death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian Kurd who had just been arrested by police.

Since then, hundreds of people have been killed, thousands arrested and two 23-year-old men have been hanged.

Iranian authorities have since restricted access to Instagram, WhatsApp and VPNs.
