A young man died and another was injured in a scooter accident on Tuesday in the 14th arrondissement of Marseille after having "fleed" trying to escape a police check, said a police source.

Shortly before 3 p.m., police "tried to control" two "unhelmeted" men riding a scooter in a northern district of Marseille.

A collision with a van

The two young people, one of whom, injured, is a minor, then "fleed".

The police “followed them but quickly lost sight of them,” said the same source, indicating that they were then found by “another patrol” after colliding with a van.

When the emergency services arrived on site, one of the victims was in cardiopulmonary arrest and the other, a minor, suffered from a head trauma.

They were both taken to hospital before one of the two men died.

Both victims are known to the police.
