Good evening,

you had or may still have a hopefully nice Christmas.

What you need: a matter of opinion.

Thousands of people who gathered on the Römerberg found that it had to be the Frankfurt city bell to set the mood.

This and more in the Rhein-Main-Zeitung and on faz.net and today again our overview in the evening with names and news from Rhein-Main.

Dangerous trip

: A visit to the forest can end horribly.

A few weeks ago, at the end of October, on a day without wind, a woman walking in the Frankfurt city forest was killed by a falling branch.

There have been several recent victims of such accidents in the region.

Will the forest become a deadly trap?

Mechthild Harting investigated this question.

Experts she spoke to call the broken branch a typical forest hazard.

It's increasing with climate change.

Insulate better

: They look beautiful, but not only make their owners happy, many are divas in the dress of a house, with creaking beams and rotting wood.

There are a good two million half-timbered buildings in Germany.

If you have one, you may be interested in what is happening in Hessenpark.

Over the next four years, the open-air museum, together with the Rhein-Main University of Applied Sciences in Wiesbaden and the Brandenburg Technical University of Cottbus-Senftenberg, want to find out how half-timbered houses can be insulated from the inside, and compare historical and modern materials in the process.

It's about how the energy efficiency of half-timbered houses can be improved by insulating them with innovative, sustainable materials - and how the houses still retain their authentic appearance.

school designer:

The former Hessian Minister of Education, Hartmut Holzapfel, died on December 21 after a serious illness.

This was announced on Monday by the Hessian Literature Council, of which he was an honorary member.

Holzapfel was born on September 5, 1944 in Röhrda in the Werra-Meißner district.

He studied in Frankfurt with Theodor W. Adorno, among others. After years as a social studies teacher in the Rhine-Main region, he was a consultant to the then Minister of Education, Ludwig von Friedeburg, and for a short time spokesman for cultural policy for the SPD in the Frankfurt city parliament.

From 1991 to 1999 he was Minister of Education in Hesse and in 1999 also Minister for Science and Art for a short time.

During his tenure, he implemented a controversial reform of the school law;

the innovations included, for example, the introduction of the school conference.

Holzapfel's responsibility fell on the abolition of Saturday classes and the introduction of freedom of choice, which gives parents the final say on the type of secondary school their children should attend.

Holzapfel was always very fond of the arts and literature.

Which is why he was also responsible for founding the Hessian Literature Council in 2003, whose programs for exchange and scholarships, for example in cooperation with "Literaturland Hessen", he often initiated and continued.

Until recently, he was the head of the club, but for health reasons he had to give up the presidency.

On Christmas Day, two 14 and 16-year-old young people in downtown Wiesbaden were attacked by a group of strangers and slightly injured

According to a survey by the German Press Agency, the music industry, which has been hit by the consequences of the corona pandemic, is optimistic about the new year.
