The answer below:

The fact of the day

Ten months after the start of the invasion of Russian troops in Ukraine, kyiv is attempting a diplomatic coup.

“Ukraine calls on UN member states (…) to deprive the Russian Federation of its status as a permanent member of the UN Security Council and to exclude it from the UN as a whole,” said indicated Monday in a press release Dmytro Kouleba, the Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs.

According to Ukrainian diplomacy, Russia "illegally occupies the seat of the USSR in the UN Security Council" since 1991 and the dislocation of the Soviet Union into 15 new countries.

These "three decades of illegal presence in the UN have been marked by wars and the seizure of territories from other countries, a forced change of internationally recognized borders and attempts to satisfy its neo-imperial ambitions", criticizes kyiv.

However, the Ukrainian request has no chance of succeeding, as Moscow has a right of veto in the UN Security Council.

sentence of the day

Crimea will be returned through a combination of force and diplomacy.

But nothing will happen without strength”

These are the words of Kyrylo Budanov, the head of the Ukrainian intelligence directorate during an interview with Liga, a media of his country.

The leader, who sets a clear objective of taking over the region, also said that Ukrainian soldiers will go “there (in Crimea) with arms in hand”.

This peninsula was annexed by Moscow in 2014 and is the target of Ukrainian drone strikes.

The Kerch Bridge, which connects the peninsula to Russia, was partly destroyed this fall by a truck bomb attack attributed by Moscow to Ukrainian forces.

In response, Moscow had stepped up strikes on Ukrainian cities, targeting energy infrastructure and depriving thousands of civilians of electricity.

The number of the day

4.

Like the number of Ukrainian “saboteurs” that the Russian security services (FSB) claim to have neutralized, Sunday, December 25.

"Following armed clashes on December 25, four saboteurs were eliminated during an attempt to enter the territory of the Bryansk region from Ukraine," the FSB said on Monday, quoted by news agencies. Russian press.

Video attributed to the FSB shows four bloodied corpses surrounded by weapons and dressed in winter camouflage.

The trend

A Ukrainian drone kills three Russians.

Russian air defenses shot down a drone approaching the Engels military base in the Saratov region of southern Russia, about 600 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

“Following the fall of the wreckage of the drone, three Russian technicians who were on the airfield were fatally injured”, announces the Ministry of Defense, quoted by the Russian news agency Tass.

Air equipment at the military base was not damaged, the ministry said.

The Saratov base had already been targeted on December 5 by drone attacks carried out by kyiv, according to Moscow.

Ukraine did not claim responsibility for the strikes, but then referred to Russia's "karma".
