The blouse in the wrong color and size that risks hanging unused in the wardrobe can become someone else's favorite everyday garment when unwanted pats are sold on.

On the second-hand site Tradera, five items changed hands every second during the past Christmas weekend - an increase of 14 percent compared to last year.

"It is strange that we continue to buy newly produced Christmas presents when we already have more than we need.

At the same time, it is gratifying that more and more people are beginning to realize the climate impact of new consumption," writes the second-hand site's press manager.

Many upgrade

Women's clothing, toys and home electronics top the list of items that are resold after Christmas when 147,000 ads have the word "new" in the title.

"Especially with clothes, fit and colors can be difficult, which can explain why that category dominates the top list.

But we also see that many people upgrade after Christmas.

For example, you keep your new console game you got for Christmas and sell the old one.”

Unexpected increase in Christmas food

This Christmas, the second-hand site has also seen an unexpected increase in sales of Christmas food - such as anchovy jars at high prices due to poor fishing and Aladdin's boxes with triplet encounters.

A few days ago, a box from 2013 was sold for SEK 475, perhaps mainly as a collector's item.
