According to the German newspaper Die Welt, today the energy crisis has given new strength to the countries of the Persian Gulf, in particular Qatar, which is the largest exporter of liquefied natural gas.

It is reported that recently the European Parliament banned Qatari lobbyists from accessing the investigation into the corruption scandal in the EP, in connection with which Doha expressed its dissatisfaction with the EU and warned of “negative” consequences regarding the supply of its gas to Europe.

“Thus, the small emirate is blatantly threatening Europe with shutting off the gas valve,” says Die Welt.

Germany, in turn, signed contracts with Qatar for the supply of two million tons of LNG from 2026.

In this regard, according to the publication, the German government will now "think twice before making any statements or decisions that could anger the sheikhs."

Earlier, Deputy Head of the European Parliament Greek politician Eva Kaili was detained in Brussels in a corruption case related to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

It is reported that the defendants in the corruption scandal that took place in the European Parliament began to testify.
