Xinhua News Agency, Shanghai, December 23 (Reporter Yuan Quan) With the current high incidence of new crown infections, what should the elderly pay attention to?

Zhang Wenhong, director of the National Center for Infectious Disease Medicine, said recently that the elderly should pay special attention to their health, protect themselves, and try not to get infected.

The first is to rely on nutritional intake and strengthening, the second is to reduce the chance of infection, and the third is to appropriately increase exercise and outdoor activities when conditions permit, but avoid gatherings and be sure to wear masks outdoors.

On the afternoon of December 22, Zhang Wenhong participated in the live broadcast of the New Crown Prevention and Health Lecture on "How the Elderly Can Prevent, Treat, and Stay Healthy at Home" hosted by the First Affiliated Hospital of Naval Military Medical University.

He said that the nutrition of the elderly is very important for the prevention and treatment of the new crown.

He once went to a nursing home. On the basis of daily nutritious meals, the nursing home provided the elderly with 2 to 3 extra eggs for free every day to supplement nutrition. "Protein intake and nutritional enhancement are very important for the elderly. They are infected with the new crown, and they can also have a strong resistance."

"At present, the overall severe disease rate of the elderly is very low, and medical institutions are making full preparations. The current epidemic situation is still spreading, and the arrival of the peak infection rate will also increase the severe disease rate, which will have a certain impact on the entire medical resources." Zhang Wenhong suggested that nursing homes and nursing homes where the elderly live should try their best to prevent staff from bringing the virus into the hospital area.

He put forward two suggestions to the staff of nursing homes and nursing homes: one is to wear N95 masks every day to nurse and look after the elderly; the other is to do antigen detection regularly to avoid infection in the entire nursing home.

  What to do if infected?

Zhang Wenhong said: "What we can do is to treat and observe the condition correctly after infection. One is to see if there is a high fever. If the high fever persists for several days, it means that the symptoms are severe; the other is to see if there is any difficulty breathing. It is also a serious symptom; the third is to look at the oxygen saturation. It is more dangerous if it is lower than 93. If it is lower than 95, you should be vigilant and you need to seek medical treatment in time; the fourth is to check the pulse. If the pulse is fast, check whether the lungs and heart are affected. .”

Zhang Wenhong also said that patients with underlying diseases should stock up on medicines during this period and minimize the frequency of going to the hospital.

The fewer visits to the doctor, the lower the risk of infection.

Once infected, take medicine when symptoms appear, but taking medicine indiscriminately is not encouraged. If multiple medicines are taken together, it is easy to cause greater damage to the body.
