Suhail Zafar, head of the operations unit of the Islamabad Metropolitan Police, announced that a suicide bomber detonated a car bomb he was driving near a residential area in the capital.

The official added - in a press statement - that the explosion killed a policeman and wounded 5 others, including two civilians and 3 policemen.

The statement stated that the explosion occurred as soon as the policemen started chasing a suspicious car that did not stop at a security checkpoint set up by the police as part of a series of precautionary measures, and based on intelligence information that had reported the existence of a security threat.

"Our initial information indicates that there is a man and a woman in the car," he told reporters, adding that the car did not stop at the checkpoint when the police tried to stop it.

"While chasing the car, whoever was inside detonated it... It was a suicide bombing," he added.

No party has so far claimed responsibility for the bombing.

It should be noted that on November 28, the Pakistani Taliban announced the end of the truce with the Islamabad government, and instructed its members to intensify attacks against security forces across the country.

Note that the Pakistani Taliban is on the list of terrorist organizations in the country.
