In line with the new "National Security Strategy," Prime Minister Kishida will formulate a space security concept by the summer of next year in order to strengthen response capabilities in the field of space security, for the first time in three years. In 2015, he announced a plan to revise the Basic Plan on Space Policy, and instructed relevant ministers to proceed with the implementation.

The new "National Security Strategy," which was approved by the Cabinet last week, calls for the Self-Defense Forces and the Japan Coast Guard to strengthen their activities in outer space.

It clearly states that a concrete concept will be compiled in the future and reflected in the Basic Plan for Space Policy.

At a meeting of the Space Development Strategic Headquarters on the 23rd, Prime Minister Kishida said, "In response to the formulation of a new National Security Strategy, we will formulate a space security concept by next summer. Based on the latest space development trends, we will revise the Basic Plan for Space Policy for the first time in three years.

Prime Minister Kishida also touched on the announcement that Japan's new flagship rocket "H3" will be launched on February 12, 2012, and said, "We will implement high-resolution observation satellites that can be used for disaster response. We will make maximum use of the characteristics of the launch cost being halved and the payload capacity being increased by 30%.”
