These incidents began when the crowd came up against a cordon of security forces protecting the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, who came to the site to provide an update on the investigation and to address journalists.

The security forces fired tear gas canisters at the demonstrators, who in turn threw projectiles in their direction, burned garbage cans and erected barricades in the street.

Scuffles were still in progress shortly before 5 p.m.
