An expert panel that has been discussing the formulation of a new "Basic Plan on Ocean Policy" has said that Japan's oceans face serious threats, such as the intrusion into Japan's territorial waters by Chinese Coast Guard ships. We have compiled a written opinion requesting stronger cooperation, etc., and submitted it to Prime Minister Kishida.

The government plans to formulate a new "Basic Plan on Ocean Policy" around May next year, which will serve as guidelines for ocean policy for the next five years.

Prior to this, an opinion piece submitted by an expert panel pointed out that "Japan's maritime interests are facing unprecedentedly serious threats and risks due to intrusions into Japan's territorial waters by Chinese Coast Guard ships." I'm here.

On top of that, we are calling for stronger cooperation between the Japan Coast Guard and the Maritime Self-Defense Force, saying that it is necessary for the government to promote measures for maritime security.

In addition, in order to connect decarbonization efforts to the growth of the marine industry, it is said that efforts should be made to expand offshore wind power generation in Japan's EEZ (Exclusive Economic Zone).

After receiving the written opinion, Prime Minister Kishida said, "In the next Basic Plan on Ocean Policy, we will promote efforts under the two major pillars of comprehensive maritime security and the building of sustainable oceans."
