• Citizens Arrimadas and Villacís support MEP Vázquez against Bal

  • Politics Bal allies himself with the 'number two' of Villacís and reaches out to those close to Arrimadas: "We have the door open"

The pieces are placed facing the refounding of Ciudadanos.

The candidacy in which

Inés Arrimadas

participates exalts

Adrián Vázquez

as the new general secretary of the party and

Patricia Guasp

as political spokesperson.

Parallel to this renewal in the leadership of the liberal formation, it is guaranteed that Arrimadas will continue to be the leader of Ciudadanos in Congress, the position with the greatest media projection.

This list, which also includes the deputy mayor of Madrid,

Begoña Villacís

, will compete if there is no unforeseen turn against the one headed by Edmundo Bal in the congress that will take place on January

13, 14 and 15 , where the

orange

formation

culminates its refounding with an eye on "reconnecting" with voters to survive.

At the head of the official list is Vázquez, MEP and mastermind of the refounding process undertaken by the party in the last six months.

He is running for the position of general secretary of the party.

With him goes Guasp, coordinator of Cs in the Balearic Islands, who will occupy the political spokesperson.

These are the two most relevant positions in the new structure.

In the rest of the command bridge,

Mariano Fuentes

, councilor of the Madrid City Council, emerges as deputy general secretary;

Carlos Pérez-Nievas

as national coordinator (what is known as Secretary of Organization) and

Guillermo Díaz and Nacho Martín Blanco

as vice spokespersons.

The other prominent positions are for

Aruca Gómez

as coordinator of the institutional and parliamentary groups and for

Joaquín Patilla

as coordinator of the Municipal Office.

The list is closed by Arrimadas, who is stripping himself of any organic position within the party but who will maintain his position as leader of Cs in Congress.

This continuity is something that the official candidacy "does not call into question", but that Bal's candidacy does, since it considers that Arrimadas will continue to control the party through the back door and marking the political line from the position with the most projection that Ciudadanos has. .

In any case, as Vázquez has stressed, any future candidate for the general elections will have to submit to primaries.

Adrián Vázquez and Patricia Guasp, together with, among others, Arrimadas and Villacís.Javier LizónEFE

"Today we present a team for a project and a project for a country. Today your party is reborn", proclaimed the MEP at the presentation of the candidacy in Madrid.

In that act, he has defended that this is "a new candidacy, of unity and of all" and that he promises to deepen the conclusions raised by the militants in these months.

Vázquez maintains the hope of convincing Bal to integrate a list of total unity.

"In this candidacy we are missing someone. We are missing Edmundo Bal and some colleagues to whom we extend our hand", he pointed out.

In fact, he has revealed that they have left "free spaces" on the list to welcome them and go "all together" to the January assembly.

Task to which he has set to work.

The aspiring Secretary General has been ironic about the criticism of his list that people close to Bal are issuing, such as the deputy

María Muñoz

.

"When he spent two weeks offering me to be his secretary general, I did not listen to his criticisms," she said.

And he has stressed that he maintained and maintains that he would only be in a "new" candidacy in which "everyone" was present.

For his part, Guasp has affirmed that his candidacy belongs to those who believe in a party "without personalities", "of a team" and of changes, but also one that "combines origin and future".

That is why he has highlighted that they have "references" in it such as Arrimadas, Villacís or

Carlos Carrizosa

.

This candidacy has indicated that it has two challenges: "reconnect" and "excite" voters "tired of bipartisanship" and focus on regional and municipal elections to be a party that once again "decide" governments.

Muñoz: "Arrimadas usurps and protects the list"

Barely an hour before this presentation, and when the main names on the list were already known, the deputy

María Muñoz

, who was part of the team for the refoundation of

Ciudadanos

, has harshly charged against her, considering that Arrimadas has "promoted, usurped and protected" a candidacy that only seeks to implement "cosmetic changes" so that "everything stays the same".

In an open letter to the militants, he rejects that this self-proclaimed "unity" list represents "consensus", a "real attempt to change things" or even a "will to unite the party", but finally responds of "maintaining the power of a few".

In his opinion, it is a "trompe l'oeil" that does not represent what the affiliates demanded during the refoundation work.

Muñoz, who is a deputy for Valencia and coordinator of the party in the Valencian Community, assures that she will not be part of any candidacy, although her support for Bal is well known, such as that offered by seven of the nine orange deputies of the parliamentary group.

In his opinion, "profound changes" are needed to reconnect with a large number of Spaniards who trusted Ciudadano in the past and who today "feel disappointed and prefer to stay at home rather than trust us or another party."

For this reason, Muñoz demands to actively defend the Cs principles of freedom and equality instead of, as now, being more concerned about the "image" of the party leaders or "what other parties think" of them.
