The number of shootings is at record high levels in Eskilstuna this year.

Between 2018 and 2021, it was shot a total of 34 times – to compare with 32 shootings this year alone.

The police have managed to solve 4 cases so far this year.

- There have been 32 shootings this year, and cases that are still being investigated.

We need to come back to these shootings next year because there are quite long investigative processes surrounding them, says Bohman.

Only 4 out of 32 cases have been able to be reported to prosecutors and led to prosecution.

Few shootings are resolved over time

But figures that SVT Nyheter Sörmland has requested show that there is a similar trend even if you look at shootings over time.

Out of a total of 34 cases between 2018 and 2021, only 7 cases have been reported to prosecutors.

What can you say to those who say you are making it easy for yourself by putting all the burden on witnesses and lack of technical evidence?

- If they had been spectators to our investigations, they would feel total confidence in us getting to the bottom of these investigations, says Christoffer Boman.

But you don't think it's good with so few solved cases?

- No, it's absolutely not good, my goal is 100 percent.

Reinforcement has left

During the autumn, the Eskilstuna Police was reinforced with more investigators from Östergötland and Jönköping in certain cases.

Including the playground shooting in Årby.

The support organization has now left Eskilstuna three weeks ago.

But the reinforcement of police officers in external service remains.

- I make the assessment that we can cope with the influx we have and what lies with ourselves, says Bohman.

In total, six people have been shot dead and 23 injured in the last five years in Eskilstuna.

Bohman sees no end to gun violence.

- It is clearly worrying, and it will continue in 2023, he says.

The last fatal shooting that occurred in Eskilstuna was at Bellmansplan this year on May 23.
