A dozen complaints were filed at the police station in Aix-les-Bains (Savoie) in the space of two weeks.

Elderly people claim to have been victims of a scam.

The modus operandi was always the same.

The pensioners were contacted by telephone by people posing as police officers, reports

Le Dauphiné Libéré

.

The criminals then explained to them that their bank account or credit card had been hacked.

Then they made them believe that they could challenge those responsible with their help.

How ?

The scammers asked the victims to go to a tobacconist and buy PCS or TRANSCACH coupons there, supposed to help locate the so-called scammers.

Finally, the fake police asked the pensioners to send them the coupon codes.

These "allow scammers to credit cards that they can obtain and use anonymously," explains L'UFC Que-Choisir.

In total, the victims of Aix-les-Bains were robbed of between 1,000 and 4,000 euros.
