Gorillaz marked the occasion to promote his new track

Skinny Ape

by giving two augmented reality concerts in New York and London.

For this immersive experience, they have chosen two emblematic places in these cities.

The first concert took place on Saturday, December 17 in Times Square while the second was held the next day in Piccadilly Circus, reports HuffPost.

To take advantage of this moment, you had to be at the meeting set by the group and have the application designed especially for the event.

By positioning themselves in both locations and looking at their smartphones, fans could see the band members virtually embedded in the image.

The sequences were designed by Nexus Animation Studios using images from Google Street View, says HuffPost.

By way of augmented reality, it was the giant avatars of 2D, Murdoc, Noodle and Russel who moved around the two places, sometimes posing on the skyscrapers.

Sparks flew from the guitar or drumsticks.

The event brought together many fans dancing and singing, while holding their cellphones.

This may have surprised the many tourists who visit Times Square and Piccadilly Circus.
