A couple living in Morières-lès-Avignon (Vaucluse) was scammed about ten days ago.

The crooks managed to steal their bank details and emptied their bank account.

It all started with the receipt of a fraudulent e-mail.

"I was asked to pay the sum of 64 cents online to receive my new Vitale card, because mine was about to expire," says the 71-year-old retiree to

Dauphiné Libéré.

The man runs without asking questions and does not realize that he has just been the victim of phishing.

A little later, the scammers contact them pretending to be a fraud inspector from their bank.

“He told us that our account had been hacked, with large sums debited,” they explain.

The bogus inspector then asks them to make several transfers to an account supposedly opened in their name in order to put their money “safe”.

The couple only realized the scam later that evening.

They filed a complaint.

The damage is estimated at 12,000 euros.

Now in a delicate financial situation, retirees can count on the solidarity of the inhabitants of their municipality.

One of them launched an online kitty.
