A firefighter who was not on duty did not hesitate to jump into the Oise, in Jouy-le-Moutier (Val-d'Oise), to save a 56-year-old woman on Tuesday morning.

He was jogging by the river when he spotted the presence of a fifty-year-old woman who had dived in order to end her life by drowning, says

.

Before assisting him, the Good Samaritan warned the emergency services.

After swimming up to the desperate, the firefighter tried to bring her back to dry land.

But the woman resisted, refusing to be rescued.

Her savior then had no other solution than to prevent her from sinking and hold her in place in the icy water.

It took several minutes for help to arrive.

Several boats were needed for the recovery operation, which lasted two hours.

In all, six machines and 18 firefighters from the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS) of Val-d'Oise were thus mobilized.

The man and woman were finally able to be brought back to shore and treated medically.

The 50-year-old was taken to hospital.
