While she was still only a child, Elisabeth Vigée Le Brun drew: she was 6 years old, she lived in a convent and she practiced with a simple piece of charcoal.

The painter, who was soon to be considered the greatest portrait painter of the 18th century, frequented artists very early on, met through her father, himself a pastel artist.

But he dies when she is only 12 years old.

How will the young Elisabeth then make drawing a profession in its own right to feed her family?

Who are its first customers?

And how does she finally meet Marie-Antoinette?

Virginie Girod retraces the career of Elisabeth Vigée Le Brun, who arrived in Versailles at the age of only 25 for her first official posing session facing the Queen.

This story is a Europe 1 Studio production.

Subjects covered: Elisabeth Vigée Le Brun - Versailles - Marie-Antoinette - Revolution - 1789 - painting - art - Louis XVI
