It was in February 2021 that the meteorite was found in the forest between the villages of Ådalen and Fröslunda in Enköping municipality.

The stone weighed 14 kilograms and turned out to be an iron meteorite.

The fall, and the bright light, were observed by many in Sweden a few months earlier.

The stone is unique in that it is the first observed case of an iron meteorite being found in Sweden.

Two private individuals found the stone.

Shortly thereafter, a conflict arose over who has the ownership rights.

On one side the finders and on the other the landowner whose land the meteorite was found on.

District Court: "Not part of the property"

The case went all the way to the district court and now they have arrived.

It is believed that the meteorite did not become part of the property on which it fell and that the stone was thus movable property without an owner.

Therefore, the district court considers that ownership should accrue to the inventors.

- The district court makes the overall assessment that a just-fallen meteorite is not part of the property on which it has landed, says councilor Markus Tengblad in a press release.
