It is primarily about an ability to stop civilian drones that weigh less than 25 kilos.

First up are units in the air force and the navy, and next year the Home Guard will also receive the equipment.

The defense has ordered the portable systems Pitbull and Wingman from Danish My Defence, which disrupt and detect the drones.

The armed forces have also ordered the Dobermann vehicle-mounted systems from the same manufacturer, which disrupt the signal between drone and operator.

"Follow the development"

Experiments are being carried out simultaneously with laser and microwave weapons.

- Some of what we buy in will become outdated and must be converted relatively quickly.

We have to keep up with developments, this is what reality looks like, says Lieutenant Colonel Ulf Lepp to the Swedish Armed Forces' website.

Drones at protected objects

The war in Ukraine has also actualized the need to be able to defend against heavier military unmanned aerial vehicles, and the Swedish Armed Forces will purchase more advanced systems in the future.

Sweden also participates in the European Defense Fund's anti-drone research.

- In war, other rules and laws apply, then it's about shooting down or striking out, in different ways.

You do that with systems that are more reminiscent of military air defense, says Lepp.

In recent years, a number of drones have been reported flying over, among other things, protective objects.
