The relevant law was adopted by the deputies at the plenary session.

Now the Code has been brought into line with the law “On Control over the Activities of Persons Under Foreign Influence”.

The law came into force on December 1.

Thus, amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses provide for fines ranging from 2,000 to 1 million rubles, and malicious evasion by foreign agents of their duties may result in criminal liability.

The co-author of the amendments, Vasily Piskarev, explained that the sanctions remain unchanged, but "the disposition is expanding."

“A larger number of cases are taken into account when there is a basis for holding foreign agents liable,” the State Duma said in a statement.

For example, administrative liability will be imposed for failure by a foreign agent to report the presence of this status.
