According to Orlov, this measure is of particular relevance in the conditions when in a number of post-Soviet countries criminal liability is introduced for wearing the St. George ribbon.

“Somewhere, nationalists and zombie youth allow themselves to publicly rip it off veterans of the Great Patriotic War with impunity and show acts of violence against our heroes,” the political scientist emphasized.

According to the interlocutor of RT, the decision of the State Duma is also important against the backdrop of attempts by the collective West to rewrite the history of the Great Patriotic War and belittle Russia's role in the victory over Nazism.

Earlier, the State Duma approved a draft fine of up to 5 million rubles for desecration of the St. George ribbon.

The bill proposes to consolidate the status of the St. George ribbon as one of the symbols of the military glory of Russia and the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.

In the summer of 2022, the Constitutional Court of Moldova appealed to the Venice Commission on the issue of a ban on the territory of the country of the St. George ribbon, symbols Z and V.
