An official at Saqr Governmental Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah revealed that the hospital has remaining financial dues for patients who were receiving treatment and failed to pay its costs, as the hospital is asking 300 patients to pay one million and 700 thousand dirhams in financial dues from the beginning of last year until the beginning of this month.

The medical official, who preferred not to be named, told Emirates Today that 95% of the patients who did not pay the costs of treatment were maternity cases that were admitted to the hospital through the emergency and accident department, and their cases were urgent, as some of them avoided entering outpatient clinics and obtaining medical care. An appointment to give birth, to avoid paying the maternity insurance before the case enters the delivery room, which is estimated at 3,000 dirhams.

He added that some births of Asian and Arab nationalities use the emergency and accident department during labor pains to give birth in the hospital without paying any sums of money upon their arrival at the hospital, and continued that it is difficult to refuse to receive birth cases through the emergency and accident department, which the hospital administration considers emergency cases. She needs to be admitted to the delivery room immediately.

He pointed out that most of these cases do not have the ability to pay the costs of childbirth, and that the hospital is constantly asking them during their stay in the hospital to pay the financial dues they owe, but they are asking the hospital to give them a letter to the charitable authorities in the emirate to help them pay the cost of childbirth and the period of stay in the hospital. .

He added that charitable institutions and societies help patients to pay the full amount owed by them or pay part of the cost of treatment, explaining that the administration withholds the birth notification that allows the family to obtain a birth certificate, to ensure that the hospital receives the rest of the financial dues.

The official explained that most patients are discharged from the hospital without paying any sums of money, and leave a birth certificate without which the family cannot obtain a birth certificate or residency for the newborn, explaining that there are patients who pay half of the costs of their treatment, and leave a check without balance to guarantee the payment of the rest of the amount. As the hospital gives them enough time to pay the rest of the amount.

He stated that the rest of the patients who are required to pay the cost of their treatment have been registered in hospital records since 2007, and they are workers who have been exposed to serious traffic accidents, and received hospital treatment that lasted for weeks, explaining that before 2008 the Ministry of Health system exempted a traffic accident patient who stayed 24 hours in the hospital. The hospital was unable to pay the treatment fees, explaining that there are patients who stayed in the hospital for more than two days, and accumulated sums of money for them in return for receiving the necessary physiotherapy and medicines.
