During Tuesday, a large police operation took place in Burträsk, Skellefteå municipality.
The police knocked on the door and searched for an elderly man who had been reported missing in the morning.
- We became aware that a person was missing and had several units on site, says Fredrik Nilsson, internal commander at the police.
The last time anyone had contact with the man was on Monday afternoon, the day before the disappearance.
He was then driven home after a hospital stay.
On Tuesday, he was missing.
Reported missing by acquaintance
- It was an acquaintance who arranged a meeting with the man who lived alone, but when the acquaintance got there, there was no one there.
A large search effort was launched and during the afternoon the man was found outside, near the home.
- He was severely hypothermic and has been taken to hospital, said Fredrik Nilsson at the time.
In the evening, Nilsson tells us that the man has been pronounced dead in hospital.
Police are investigating the cause of death, but do not suspect foul play.
