Ivo decided at the beginning of the year to start a national inspection of the emergency hospitals with a special focus on the care places.

Patients can get hurt

Decisions have now been made for 24 of the 27 hospitals reviewed and all receive criticism.

According to Ivo, the lack of space means that patients risk harm.

- It is a very serious situation.

We have situations where patients lie for several days in the emergency wards, in corridors or outsourced to wards where there is not the right competence at all, says Sofia Wallström, general director of Ivo, to the newspaper.

The regions must remedy

She also mentions that examples have been seen where patients have been provided with pot lids or bells in order to alert the staff.

The announcements for the last three hospitals in the review will come either just before or just after the new year, says Sofia Wallström.

After that, the authority will present an interim report in which, among other things, it explains what conclusions it has drawn.

Soon, several of the regions will also announce what measures they have taken or will take to deal with the problems.
