Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin is traveling to Senegal on Tuesday, two days after his visit to Algeria.

With his counterpart, he will discuss various subjects and in particular the question of immigration.

Paris and Dakar want to strengthen their ties to better regulate these migratory flows.

After Algeria, heading for Senegal for Gérald Darmanin.

The Minister of the Interior is due to meet his counterpart in Dakar on Tuesday to discuss security, cooperation in the field of sport, but above all immigration.

Nevertheless, this time, the French executive does not plan to reduce the number of visas from Senegal as was the case for the Maghreb countries and in particular Morocco where the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Catherine Colonna, s returned a few days ago.

Paris and Rabat have also buried the hatchet on the occasion of this trip and have restored a "normal" consular relationship.

In Dakar, it will be a question for Gérald Darmanin of shortening the duration of obtaining residence permits on the Senegalese side, but also of strengthening the fight against illegal immigration.

Regarding visas, France distributed nearly 50,000 on November 30, almost the same number as before the crisis.

The issue of crack trafficking

Among these visas, 4,000 were granted to students.

A figure which, according to Beauvau, has doubled between 2015 and 2020. The Minister of the Interior will also visit a visa application center just after an interview with Senegalese Prime Minister Amadou Ba.

The two men will discuss, among other things, crack trafficking in which Senegal is a major player.

They will also discuss the follow-up to Operation Forceval which, last October, led to the evacuation of a camp of crack users in the north of Paris.

24 illegal immigrants have since been expelled.

Paris and Dakar are thus aiming for better information sharing and wish to increase the number of Senegalese liaison officers in France to facilitate expulsions.
