Citizens agreed that the current form of the Emirates Standard Test (EMSAT) should not be considered as a condition for accepting students with high school diplomas at universities within the country, as well as their enrollment in educational missions outside the country, considering that this test is a "complicated and difficult evaluation tool."

In turn, a member of the Federal National Council, Maryam Majid bin Thaniah, called on the Ministry of Education to review the requirement to pass the “EMSAT” test, because it prevented outstanding students from being scholarships, despite achieving high grades, while the Ministry pledged to conduct an extensive study on reducing the minimum test scores according to For majors, there will be a decision at the beginning of next year.

In detail, she raised an intervention addressed by a member of the Federal National Council, Maryam Majid bin Thaniah, to the Minister of Education, Dr. Ahmed Abdullah Belhoul Al Falasi, during the Federal National Council session, which was held last week, about the requirement to pass the Emirates Standard Test (EMSAT) for the purposes of accepting students who obtained Obtaining a general secondary certificate inside the country, as well as students obtaining educational scholarships outside the country, wide reactions among hundreds of citizens who praised the importance of focusing the oversight authority represented by the Federal National Council, on societal issues and files pertaining to each home, and discussing them with the executive authorities represented in the government They stressed that the “EMSAT” test is a difficult assessment tool, and deprives many students of the opportunity to continue their university education.

And finally, a video spread on social media platforms of an intervention in which a member of the Federal National Council, Maryam Majid bin Thaniah, directed a parliamentary question to the Minister of Education, which read: “The Ministry of Education several years ago required passing the Emirates Standard Test (EMSAT) for the purposes of admission Students who obtained a high school diploma inside the country, as well as students obtaining educational scholarships outside the country, but the application of this condition led to the deprivation of many national students from opportunities for higher education within the country or scholarships outside the country, although the prestigious universities outside the country do not require this test to accept.

So why does the ministry not address the matter by considering canceling this condition in light of what it led to in reducing higher education opportunities?

Bin Thaniah said: “Previously, we used to take exams to measure the skills required for universities and colleges, but today we are talking about (EMSAT), which complicates the process of student continuity in education, and how many students lost seats in universities because of one of the (EMSAT) signs, and it was because of materials It is not essential in the disciplines that they study at the university, and the problem is that the score of this test is the one that did not allow students to enter universities, and became an obstacle for students that stopped their path. Students because of a material or mark in (EMSAT).

Bin Thaniah called on the ministry to review the requirement to pass the (EMSAT) test for admission of students to universities, and also demanded that students who sit at home because of a mark in (EMSAT) be allowed to enroll in universities, as well as those who were denied scholarships despite achieving high grades, especially since there are those who have been accepted. In prestigious universities without passing (EMSAT).

This was supported by a large number of citizens on their personal pages on social media, where an account in the name of “Nasser Al-Sheikh” confirmed his confidence that the leadership would consider the issue of citizen students who graduated from high school who were denied university studies, stressing that the state’s leadership is more keen on young people. Homeland, and I know that rehabilitation is better than deprivation.

An account in the name of “Khadija” stated that tests such as “EMSAT” and “IELTS” are difficult evaluation tools, explaining that she knows many high school students who succeeded, but they sit at home without work, and they did not complete university studies because they did not pass the “EMSAT” test. Because their specialties do not require this test.

While an account in the name of “Abdullah Al-Kamali” said: “It is not educationally correct to test the student in something that has not been prepared for him, and if the criterion for admission to universities is (EMSAT), then this matter requires changing the course and exams so that they prepare the student for this test, but that the student studies subjects and succeeds in them, then the criterion for entering the university is another test that the student has not prepared or trained for, so this is unacceptable.

This was supported by an account in the name of “Abdullah Al-Shamali”, saying: “Such tests are evidence of the lack of development in the global education system, which still relies on studying for grades and not for educational attainment, and the result reaches the labor market, where you see some managers focus on the timing of entry.” Going out is more than productive.”

While an account in the name of “Salah Al Balushi” added: “We did not study Emsat, TOEFL, or IELTS, but we studied the foundational system for one year, and everyone passed it, and some colleagues became deans in prestigious universities, international doctors, professors of international universities, directors of international companies and senior leaders, and I think if it was applied During that period, the Emsat system would have lost competencies for which Lebanon is attested.

For his part, the Minister of Education, Dr. Ahmed Abdullah Belhoul Al Falasi, affirmed that it is mandatory to master the English language to accept students in higher education institutions by taking the standard test “EMSAT”, which replaced several similar tests, stressing that the condition of mastering the English language is To complete higher education as a country that speaks the Arabic language, it is an established matter and no change has been made to it.

The minister said, during the Federal National Council session, which was held last week: "With regard to setting a minimum score for the (EMSAT) test for admission to universities, we are now conducting an extensive study, and there will be a decision at the beginning of next year regarding these scores required for each major."

He added, "Mastery of the English language will continue, but the subject of setting a minimum score for each major is under study, and will be presented to the Education Council," indicating that the "EMSAT" test serves two aspects, the first aspect is the quality of educational outputs, and the second is university admission, Because there are universities that believe that there is a great benefit from these tests, stressing that the ministry has recently set a minimum score for "EMSAT" in some specializations, and it has complete numbers and statistics on the number of students who passed the test, and how they were distributed among the specializations.

3 student proposals

A number of students who interacted with the reactions to the “EMSAT test” question concluded with three proposals to deal with the “EMSAT” test, which include canceling this test, reducing the minimum pass, or merging it with a high school degree, stressing that the difficulty of this test is lack of training. Advance on the exam method and the basics of dealing with it.

They stressed that approximately 70% of students suffer from the problem of passing this test, for periods ranging between two and three years, expressing their hope that the Ministry of Education will put an end to this matter, in order to save the students who have stopped completing their educational path.

One of the students said: “I succeeded in high school with a score of 79%, and I applied to UAE University and got (EMSAT) with a high score in English and Arabic as well, and physics, but the university did not accept me because my success rate did not reach 80.”

Another student said: "I stopped completing university studies, because I am required to pass tests such as (TOEFL) and (EMSAT), although the English language has nothing to do with my studies because my major is the Arabic language."

While a student at the Higher College of Technology described his experience with the “EMSAT” test as benefiting him a lot by helping to improve his level of reading, writing and speaking English, but at the same time it caused him harm as it delayed his entry to college for a full year, in addition to the exorbitant sums he incurred to study « Emsat.
