The funeral of

Iris

and

Lara

, the two girls aged nine and 11 murdered by their mother, who later committed suicide, at the Civil Guard barracks in

Quintanar del Rey (Cuenca),

has been a disconsolate farewell in silence and among white flowers

Shortly before 11:00 a.m. this Saturday, the bodies of the girls arrived at the local parish of San Marcos Evangelista, where several hundred people were waiting along with wreaths from relatives and the Armed Institute.

The 42-year-old mother belonged to the Civil Guard, who shot her two daughters dead last Wednesday in the house where they lived in the barracks and then took her own life.

In the procession to the parish was the father of the girls and the paternal family, both their grandparents and their aunts, together with many classmates from the school where they were studying, as well as residents of this town of La Manchuela with less than 8,000 inhabitants where pain is glimpsed on every face.

"Father and grandparents", "Your uncles and cousins" or "CEIP Valdemembra" prayed on the crowns in memory of the girls, with roses, carnations and white chrysanthemums.

A sign carried by the neighbors read: "Rest in peace, you will always be in our hearts."

Also present at the farewell were the head of the Cuenca Civil Guard Command, Colonel

Fernando Montes

, and the mayor of Quintanar del Rey,

Martín Cebrián

.

In the church, the funeral for the sisters has been officiated for a little over half an hour on a gray and overcast day with no more than eight degrees of temperature.

Later, the bodies of the girls have been transferred to receive burial to the municipal cemetery.

The filicide continues under summary secrecy, as decreed last Thursday by the head of the Court of First Instance and Instruction number 1 of Motilla del Palancar (Cuenca). This Saturday is the third and last day of official mourning in the town.
