Twitter: Elon Musk says he will reinstate suspended journalists' accounts

The new owner of Twitter, Elon Musk, indicated on Friday evening, December 16, that he was going to restore the accounts of several American journalists on this social network after having caused an uproar by suspending them.

Elon Musk had launched a poll on Twitter to ask if he should restore suspended accounts immediately or in a week.

Nearly 59% of the 3.69 million Internet users who took part in the survey replied that he should restore them immediately.

 , ”tweeted the billionaire, who had been threatened this same Friday with sanctions by the European Union.

The UN also denounced " 

a dangerous precedent 

" with this suspension.

A dozen suspended accounts

A dozen American journalists had been suspended from the social network.

Among them are media workers like CNN (Donie O'Sullivan), the

New York Times

(Ryan Mac), the

Washington Post

(Drew Harwell) and independent journalists.

Some of them had tweeted about Twitter's decision on Wednesday to suspend the account that automatically reported Elon Musk's private jet rides.

The latter had accused them of endangering his safety as well as that of his family.

He claimed in a

on Wednesday that a vehicle with one of his children on board was tracked in Los Angeles by " 

a crazed stalker 

", appearing to create a causal link to the real-time positioning of his jet.
